Stage two · Paid

Certificate

A serious wine course in three parts, bought one at a time and taken in order: the fundamentals, then the major wine regions, then the rest of the wine world.

What this stage covers

  • Part A, the fundamentals: how a vineyard works, how wine is made, and how to taste it
  • Part B, the major wine regions: France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Alsace, and the United States
  • Part C, the rest of the wine world: Portugal and England, then Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and South Africa
  • The principal grapes, and what climate, soil and site do to them
  • Structure, balance, and the effect of oak at the table
  • Faults, and how to spot one in the glass

How it works

Standalone phased learning to imprint your wine knowledge. This is also supported by the Vinealto wine knowledge book and other material to support your learning.

How the Coach works

The Coach is question-led. You are given multiple-choice questions to answer and your progress is monitored. The stages are taken in order, building on what you already know. The clever part of this method is that the Coach uses a phased learning approach which brings back the same questions periodically until the knowledge has been fully retained. The Coach is available on web and phone, and your account is connected across both.

The three parts

The Certificate is taken in three parts, bought one at a time and in order, so you can stop and start as suits you. Part A is the fundamentals: how a vineyard works, how wine is made, how to taste, and what climate, soil and oak do to what is in the glass. Part B is the major wine regions, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Alsace, and the United States. Part C is the rest of the wine world, from Portugal and England to Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and South Africa. All three earn the Vinealto Certificate.
