Company
Our independence
Vinealto recommends wines, restaurants and pairings for one reason: we think they are good. Nobody pays us for a recommendation.
What we never accept
- Payment, fees, commission or affiliate income from any producer, importer, retailer or restaurant for a recommendation, a review or a place in the Restaurant Guide.
- An entry fee to be considered.
What we do accept, and how we tell you
- Free samples, so that we can taste a wine and judge it. A sample does not buy a recommendation, and many samples will not be recommended.
- Occasional hospitality, such as a tasting or a meal.
Everything we receive is listed in the declarations table below: what it was, who it came from and when.
Our work with businesses
Vinealto also works with businesses. We train restaurant and shop staff, help restaurants with their wine lists, and offer our courses through partners such as wine retailers. That work is kept apart from our reviews. A business we work with gets no special treatment in what we recommend, and where we recommend a wine sold by a business we work with, we say so beside it. Some of our courses may be paid for by wine trade bodies; when one is, we say so on the course.
How we judge
Wines are judged on what is in the glass. Restaurants are assessed against the framework on our How we assess page, and no restaurant can pay for a place in the Guide or for a better result. We do not rank producers.
If you think we have fallen short of this, please tell us at elise@vinealto.com.
