Butler Whites is a Humber Street brasserie in Hull serving seasonal comfort food, steaks and pizzas. Its short wine list covers the familiar styles with nine wines by the glass, but it shows no vintages and no sweet wines. It suits groups and couples after a relaxed meal with a familiar bottle.

Tapasya@Marina is an ambitious Indian fine-dining restaurant on Hull's Marina with a wine list far broader and more thoughtful than the cuisine usually attracts. The wine programme earns its standing on genuine breadth, a cuisine-aware choice of aromatic whites, sparkling and alcohol-free options, and the rare help of per-dish spice markings, let down only by a steep premium end and the gaps a dessert and fortified shelf would close. It will most reward the curious diner who wants to drink properly with their spice and treats the spice markings, and the person pouring, as the tools they are.
