The Restaurant Guide for Wine Lovers

Castle Kitchen and Bar

We assessed Castle Kitchen and Bar in July 2026 from the menu and wine list as they stood then. Dishes and bottles move on; how to drink well here changes far more slowly. We name bottles from the list we saw and say what to reach for by style, so the advice outlasts the list. Once you are seated, At the Table in the Vinealto app reads the list in front of you.

Castle Kitchen and Bar is the chargrill-and-bistro dining room at the Galgorm resort outside Ballymena, cooking dry-aged steaks and local Mourne lamb and Portavogie seafood at upper-mid-range prices. The wine programme is a compact, commercial list that covers the menu competently by the glass and reaches for a few better bottles at the top, but it leaves real gaps: no dessert or fortified wine, no printed pairing, and only a rough answer to the sweet-savoury and spiced plates. It will most reward the diner who wants a familiar, well-priced glass alongside a good steak, rather than one hunting a deep or adventurous cellar.

The full assessment — the wine programme, the pairings that lift a plate, and how the room reads for a wine lover — is for subscribers.
