The Restaurant Guide for Wine Lovers
Mara
We assessed Mara in July 2026 from the menu and wine list as they stood then. Dishes and bottles move on; how to drink well here changes far more slowly. We name bottles from the list we saw and say what to reach for by style, so the advice outlasts the list. Once you are seated, At the Table in the Vinealto app reads the list in front of you.
Mara is an all-Italian wine bar, small-plates kitchen and bottle shop in Aberdeen's West End, where the food is built to be grazed with a glass in hand. The wine programme achieves real mutual elevation through a coherent regional Italian list, an unusually generous two-size by-the-glass offer and a Franciacorta block that answers the hardest plates, held back from more only by unshown vintages and the absence of any organic thread. It will most reward the curious drinker who wants to graze Italian small plates and work through a serious by-the-glass list without committing to a bottle.
The full assessment — the wine programme, the pairings that lift a plate, and how the room reads for a wine lover — is for subscribers.
