We assessed Pen and Cob in July 2026 from the menu and wine list as they stood then. Dishes and bottles move on; how to drink well here changes far more slowly. We name bottles from the list we saw and say what to reach for by style, so the advice outlasts the list. Once you are seated, At the Table in the Vinealto app reads the list in front of you.

Pen and Cob is a busy Bedford brasserie whose drinks list is more thoughtfully built than the format usually allows. Its wine programme is organised for easy matching, generous by the glass across every colour and even the sweet wines, and it climbs to genuinely serious bottles without losing its everyday footing. It will suit a mixed table who want to drink well and flexibly around a wide menu, with just enough at the top for a wine lover to reach for.
