We assessed Purchases in July 2026 from the menu and wine list as they stood then. Dishes and bottles move on; how to drink well here changes far more slowly. We name bottles from the list we saw and say what to reach for by style, so the advice outlasts the list. Once you are seated, At the Table in the Vinealto app reads the list in front of you.

Purchases is a long-running Modern British fine-dining restaurant and cocktail bar in the middle of Chichester, cooking a seasonal, largely local menu. Its wine programme earns its keep through an unusually flexible by-the-glass range in three pour sizes, a genuine strength in West Sussex sparkling, and a list that climbs sensibly from everyday drinking to fine-and-rare without losing its footing. It will suit a wine lover who likes to taste widely by the glass and drink local fizz on its home ground, and who is happy to bring their own plan to plates the menu leaves unguided.

The Gallery Restaurant sits on the Denbies wine estate above Dorking, cooking a seasonal modern British menu with a wine from the estate printed against every dish. Its distinction is that the wine is entirely estate-grown and made on site (a genuinely local, single-estate offer led by a serious traditional-method sparkling range, with still whites, an English orange wine and a sweet botrytis white) though by design it has no geographic breadth and its restaurant pricing was not separately published. It will most reward the drinker curious about English wine who wants to taste a single estate across a full menu, at source, and to carry home the bottle they liked from the shop next door.
