We assessed Red Cow in July 2026 from the menu and wine list as they stood then. Dishes and bottles move on; how to drink well here changes far more slowly. The Red Cow is a town-centre gastropub in Nantwich cooking a broad British menu with an ambitious wine list behind it. The wine programme earns its standing on a thoughtful, wide-ranging buy (a curated by-the-glass shortlist for the everyday plates and a bottle tier with real interest, from a Chablis Premier Cru to a Médoc claret), let down only by the absence of any dessert or fortified wine and no stated vintages. It will most reward the pub-goer who wants to drink a genuinely considered glass or bottle with a burger or a steak, and who is happy to be guided by a list that is doing more than the setting suggests.
