Sager and Wilde is a Hackney Road wine bar where a deep, personal list of grower and natural wines is the reason to go and a short menu of salty, savoury plates keeps it company. The wine programme answers every plate by the glass, prices fine and mature bottles fairly and opens rare wines by the small glass, with only fortified and sweet wines left thin. It will most reward a curious drinker who wants to explore, by the glass or the bottle.

Brawn is a neighbourhood restaurant on Columbia Road with a daily changing European menu built on salt, bitter leaves, seafood and pork. Its list of about three hundred bottles from small growers, deep in the Jura, the Loire and grower Champagne, gives this cooking a wine for every plate at fair prices. It will most reward adventurous wine lovers who like to explore rare grapes and regions, and anyone happy to start from the daily glass list.
