The Restaurant Guide for Wine Lovers

Escabeche

We assessed Escabeche in October 2026 and this review is based on the food menu and wine list at the time of the review. As menus and wine lists change, we name styles in order for the information to remain more useful as menus change. If things have slipped you can use the Vinealto Dining app including accessing an up to date reading using 'At the Table' from the wine list in front of you in the restaurant. How we assess

Escabeche is a tapas restaurant in West Bridgford mixing Spanish classics with freer modern plates. Its short, almost wholly Iberian list pours most of its wines by the glass and backs them with five Sherries and four Ports. It suits groups who like to share plates and try several glasses over an evening.

The full assessment of the wine programme, the pairings and how to get the best experience is for members. Make a free account to read five full entries.

The Lake Isle

Uppingham, East Midlands

Modern European

The Lake Isle is a season-led modern-European restaurant with rooms on Uppingham's high street, unusually well supplied with wine for its size. The list is a genuinely bought cellar (deep, mature and fairly priced at the top) that meets the kitchen's hardest plates squarely, with by-the-glass answers for the smoked fish and the asparagus and a real dessert-and-Port close. It will most reward the drinker who travels for a serious list in an unexpected place and is happy to explore beyond the by-the-glass flight.

The Barnsdale (1760 Brasserie)

Oakham, East Midlands

Modern British brasserie

The 1760 Brasserie is the relaxed restaurant of The Barnsdale, a country hotel on the edge of Rutland Water, cooking a modern British brasserie menu. Its long list pours more than half its wines by the glass, with carafes, a strong sweet and fortified close and a cellar of serious Bordeaux and Burgundy, though the everyday bottles are expensive. It will suit a table that likes to drink by the glass through a meal, and the guest who wants something special without leaving the hotel.

Tom Browns Brasserie

Nottingham, East Midlands

Modern British brasserie

Tom Browns Brasserie is a riverside grill-and-seafood restaurant whose wine list has been thoughtfully built to match the food rather than merely to fill it out. The programme achieves real mutual elevation. The trickiest plates are answered fluently by the glass, the style-banded list guides the diner, and a proper sweet-and-fortified offer lets a meal end well. It will most reward the diner who likes to drink by the glass across a shared, seafood-leaning table and wants a list that makes the choosing easy.
