The Clove Club is a two-Michelin-star tasting-menu restaurant in Shoreditch whose wine programme (close to eight hundred grower-focused references and an award-winning pairing flight) is among the most serious in London. The kitchen and cellar achieve real mutual elevation: the menu is written with the wine in mind, the hardest courses are the ones the flight answers most fluently, and the format itself puts a matched, explained glass beside every plate. It will most reward the wine lover who comes to put themselves in a great sommelier's hands for an evening, and who finds their value in the by-the-glass offer and the lower reaches of a long and sometimes steeply marked list.
